image Sunday 25th July to 2nd August marks the dates for the 2010 Howya Festival in Durrow, Co. Laois. The event is otherwise known as the Festival of Friendships. This year the event is incorporating the inaugural All Ireland Scarecrow Championships. The festival has events running for both adults and children, with sports tournaments, a fun duck derby, table quizes, nostalgia nights, comedians, dances on the green for charity, the famous Crystal Swing band playing and a Wild West night amongst other fun things. This year’s Rose of Tralee Festival has been officially launched. The international festival will run from Friday August 20th to Tuesday August 24th. Companies in Tralee are being asked to dig deep again this year in order to fund the Back to Basics programme. €75,000 is needed to fund the free entertainment schedule, which includes concerts, parades and fireworks. Among the musical acts to perform will be Irish rock band The Coronas and Internet sensations Crystal Swing. 32 women will battle it out to be named the 51st Rose of Tralee in the Dome. The lucky winner, who will be crowned on the final night of the Festival, will be presented with the perpetual tiara and trophy, a magnificent selection of Newbridge Jewellery, the use of a car for a year and a €25,000 World Prize... Summer Camps for Youths Players via Knock On, May 10th, 2010 at 22:08

image A novel new set of summer camps will be taking place in a number of venues along the west coast of Ireland this year catering for players between the ages of 13 and 18. We have all heard of summer camps for minis throughout Ireland. The Centra sponsored IRFU camps will be in full swing from early next month but a former Connacht, Wasps and Ireland A prop Peter Bracken has kick started a venture to cater for players of an older variety. Bracken has set up thescrumdoctor.com which advertises his new scrummaging coaching clinics which he hopes to expand next season, helping clubs and individuals develop their technique and skills in the crucial set peice area. image The sporting theme continues apace, with this year’s OutGames taking place from this weekend in Copenhagen. And Ireland’s very own LGBT competitors will be taking place, with several athletes representing OutInIreland. OutInIreland is was conceived as a network to bring GLBT men and women together around a particular sporting interest or activity. Founder Frank Kelly originally set up Out4Tennis, a network of GLBT tennis players from around Ireland that come together on a regular basis for tournaments and ‘meets’. Currently OutInIreland comprises three networks: Out4Tennis, Out4Badminton, In4Squash and OutRowers.
