Green Party to Pick up Seanad Seat as Fianna Fail nominate Cllr James Carroll via Irish Election, Nov 11th, 2009 at 10:13

image Fianna Fail will nominate Cllr James Carroll – Louth County Councillor and parliamentary assisatnt to Margaret Conlon for one of the two Seanad seats to be filled at the forthcoming Seanad election. You might remember him from his scintillating blog posts during the local elections (he is also one of Suzy’s stepford candiates). It looks like Alan Kelly’s seat will be filled by the Green Party. It also emerged last night that the Green Party will fill a vacancy in the Upper House caused by the election of Labour’s Alan Kelly to the European Parliament in June. This seat is on the agricultural panel. However, the Greens last night would not comment on the development. Party whips from Fianna Fáil and the Greens in the Seanad had agreed on alternating replacements for... Similar posts

Seaned Election to Take Place Next Month via Irish Election, Nov 3rd, 2009 at 16:59

Via RTE: The election to fill two of the three vacant seats in the Seanad will take place next month. Nominations will close in two weeks’ time and the ballot will continue until 11am on 14 December. Results will be known two days later. Only members of the Dáil and the Seanad can vote in the elections. The vacancies were caused by the death of Fianna Fáil Sen Tony Kett, and the election of Labour’s Alan Kelly to the European Parliament. A little bit more background for you all: Both seats are expected to be filled by representatives of Government parties. A third vacancy has arisen in the 60-seat chamber following the sudden death last weekend of Senator Peter Callanan from Clonakilty in Co Cork. It is not expected that the notice for that vacancy will be moved for some... Similar posts
