As part of a broader set of requests for expenses, and other, databases I sought the expenses database (CoreExpense) of the Department of Finance since its inception. The total amount of claims in that time period (the earliest date being 2001) was €3.48 million in 39,241 rows. Some fields of the database were removed due to Section 28 Personal Information exemptions, which on the face of it appear to be entirely reasonable.

I don’t have a staff count number for the DoF but the number of claims appears relatively small. Other costs may have been directly incurred by the Department, rather than claimed by staff....

A busy day at the Department of Finance as desks get cleared before Christmas. The Department has released its regulations regarding the determination of long-term economic value for assets. These regulations formalise draft regulations that were released here in September. Much of this was published before. One new bit is that the September draft said that assets would be valued using a discount rate such that

The theory was that we would consider the Christmas break to Valencia as everyones’ present to everyone else.
However, we’re finding that this is one theory that doesn’t hold a whole lot of water. Already the demands for not one but two PSPs are getting incredibly loud and we’ve still a good three weeks to go before the present cut-off time arrives of course.
Buying in Valencia isn’t really an option. In principle, it would be a good idea but realistically we’re not going to be there until late on the Saturday and I don’t fancy our chances competing with Spaniards in the shops on Christmas Eve.
Or, to put it another way, we gotta get the PSP ordered pronto if it’s to be here before Christmas!...
