“The thief of St Denis” via A Sporting View, Nov 18th, 2009 at 23:14

image So we’re not going to South Africa but our exit from the World Cup qualifying stages was not as straight forward as I thought. I wrote earlier that I’d be happy to eat my words and there’s a massive helping of humble pie in front of me now. A pair I dismissed earlier, Keith Andrews and Glenn Whelan, were immense. Captain Robbie Keane worked his socks off and Damien Duff recaptured past glories. How Liam Lawrence is not a regular at Stoke is beyond me, he was our most creative spark. As we found out though when Thierry Henry switched to Gaelic Football in setting up Gallas for the crucial goal, football is a funny old game some times. It just proves that we can do it when it matters. A side that was outclassed on Saturday night gave the French the fright of their lives in... Similar posts

A salute to the boys in Green via Musings from a Man Lost in La Mancha, Nov 19th, 2009 at 09:27

image Last night in the wake of Ireland’s cruel exit from World Cup 2010 at the hands of the French I wanted to express my feelings. A combination of tiredness and wisdom told me to wait until the morning and approach the subject with a clear head. The result left me saddened and angered that such a travesty of injustice could be imposed on people who gave it their all in pursuit of victory. We all know now of the circumstances that led to our exit, by way of the hand of a Frenchman who once was a model for integrity in the modern game. Tomes and songs will be written about that “goal” and I don’t want the game to remembered for just that. What last night was was the finest display of football by an Irish team in years and perhaps the best display I’m seen in my... Stick to rugby, Bock via Twenty Major - Still smoking in Dublin bars, Nov 19th, 2009 at 08:56

Ireland went out of the World Cup last night when Thierry Henry cheated and France scored. Of course emotions run high and it’s easy to point the finger of blame at one man when that misses the big picture entirely. But it goes deeper than that. According to Bock the Robber, Thierry Henry knew before the game France would qualify. He says: He knows this because he has been told it before the game kicked off. Thierry Henry knew his team would be going to South Africa before they played one second of the first leg in Dublin. Why? Because we now know clearly that soccer has no credibility whatever. We can see now that soccer is a profoundly corrupt activity, with no purpose except to make money for people like Thierry Henry and his masters. Frankly that is beyond stupid as anyone who... France v Rep. of Ireland (2nd leg) via gaelick, Nov 18th, 2009 at 11:41

image Tonight, eight teams battle it out for the four remaining places in the FIFA World Cup which is taking place in South Africa in 2010. One of those places could belong to Ireland which would mean France (who won the competition for their first and only time in 1998) would miss out on qualification for the first time since USA 94′. Ireland on the other hand are hoping to make their fourth finals, their previous best being the Quarter-Finals in Italia ‘90 when they lost to hosts Italy. With a solitary French away goal at Croke Park being the difference going into this evening’s game, all is not lost (despite the fact that, competitively, France are unbeaten at the Stade de France since 1999!). There is however, much to do and very little room for lapses in concentration. If... Similar posts

Óle Óle Óle Ireland take on France….Twice via The Almost Daily Sports Blog, Nov 14th, 2009 at 16:46

So today is MASSIVE I am told. I'm guessing it hasn't a whole lot to do with the X Factor and Queen night or with the shopping spree I had this morning. Instead Gav tells me it has something to do with a small insignifigant night of sport.....men in shorts running after a round rolling abject gets my vote any night so I decided to look into it!Seemingly its Ireland vs France tonight in the World Cup Qualifiers....who knew eh?? Gavin did. As always. But Gavin is a very busy man today at work but I'll explain that later on....I promise. So Trap has had a tough job ahead of him. We all remember the Italy game. That game in my humble opinion was by far the biggest f**k up of the year. I mean we were ahead twice in that match and both times we threw it away and Italy came back so we ended in a...
