Fermanagh and South Tyrone – the story of a Westminster constituency via Ulster's Doomed!, May 31st, 2010 at 15:54

image The seemingly never-ending story of Fermanagh and South Tyrone continues. The latest episode is that Rodney Connor, the defeated unionist unity candidate has launched a legal challenge over the result, by asking the Election Court in Belfast to review the election.Although it is relatively rare for such a review to be requested, it is not surprising that it is FST that is the subject.FST is a closely contested constituency, and has been one since its creation in 1948.The first election in the new constituency was on 23 February 1950, and FST quickly established its exceptionality by recording a turnout rate record – 92.1%. The election was a straight battle between the veteran nationalist Cahir Healy (who stood as an abstentionist) and the unionist Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Richardson.... Similar posts

New SDLP face for Fermanagh and South Tyrone via O'Conall Street, Mar 10th, 2010 at 09:44

image The SDLP has a new face in Fermanagh and South Tyrone and he will be well known to you. Fearghal McKinney is seeking the nomination to contest the next Westminster Election on behalf of the SDLP. I’ve known Fearghal for a long time and know this is something he has been thinking about for nearly a year. He wants to play a role in rebuilding the SDLP and be future evidence that we are party with a new generation ready to reconnect with people across our region. His will be a platform for change in his home county.... Similar posts

The sincerest form of flattery - or desperation? via Ulster's Doomed!, Mar 10th, 2010 at 09:16

The SDLP have followed the UUP's lead and have found a TV celebrity candidate to stand for them in Fermanagh and South Tyrone (FST). In fact, as the BBC reports it, "Former UTV Reporter Fearghal McKinney is expected to announce later that he wants to be the next MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone. The journalist is expected to declare that he wants to run for the SDLP in the forthcoming General Election." That gives the impression that it is McKinney himself, rather than the SDLP as a party, who will decide who stands. So far nothing has been heard from the SDLP's long-standing (but unsuccessful) Westminster candidate Tommy Gallagher.McKinney thus follows in the footsteps of his erstwhile UTV colleague, Mike Nesbitt, who will stand for the UUP/UCUNF in Strangford. The upcoming Westminster... Celebrate with revolutioncycle - free champagne! via BUBBLE BROTHERS - CORK WINE MERCHANTS, Jun 2nd, 2009 at 11:15

Today, the revolutioncycle.ie team, Fearghal O’Nuallain and Simon Evans, will be cycling across the Equator, not far from Quito in Ecuador. This is an achievement in itself, as you’ll know if you’ve been following their adventures by blog, photo-reportage or twitter.  Reaching this milestone will give the lads a boost as they ponder what to do on the next leg of their journey across Asia, with a Siberian winter looking like the best option in the circumstances. We’re supporting the celebration at the Irish end with a very special offer, just today - so you’ll have to be quick! If you buy one bottle of the premium Tsarine champagne that is exclusive to us and was so well reviewed by the Best of Wine in Ireland when we introduced it, Wonderful aromas of... Similar posts

European Court rules on Glennane gang collusion via The Green Ribbon, Nov 28th, 2007 at 14:38

The European Court of Human Rights ruled yesterday that the role of security force collusion in the killings of eight people in South Armagh in the 1970s was not properly investigated. The killings are believed to have been the work of the Glennane Gang, a group of loyalists and security force members also linked to the Dublin and Monaghan bombings of 1974. The following statement on the ruling was issued by Madden and Finucane solicitors:PRESS RELEASE ON BEHALF OF MADDEN & FINUCANE SOLICITORS The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg today gave judgment in favour of the families of eight men who were murdered by a Loyalist murder gang in the South Armagh area in the mid 1970’s. The cases were taken to Strasbourg following the failure of the British Government to properly... Similar posts

Tart Syndrome via Clicker Conspiracy, Jun 24th, 2006 at 14:24

image When I first started posting on this blog, I made an effort to be honest about my motives for the whole business. Top of that list of motives was recognition of my compulsive Vanity (not vanity). I suppose stating this was a cheap attempt on my part to pose as self deprecating at the outset and I hoped that I could endear myself to those checking out the site by shooting myself in the foot before I started. Of course, someone who continues to blog after a year of posting (most blogs are dropped after a few months) has no real problem with vanity. At that stage, if you are still going, you are either a gathered technophile with homely agendas (Stelke), a novelty rapper turned God-Fearin Lovelyman (Hammertime!) or you are the Lawnmower man (Ring-Ring).Unfortuneatly, I don't qualify for any...
