Philip B (on the left there - swit swoo, wha?) is a bit of an auld legend in haircare terms - he’s worked extensively in the entertainment industry in LA - in other words, with all de stars - yet his products aren’t fluffy, shiny stuff that just add gloss or volume with no actual haircare going on.
Nope, Philip’s main concern is stress and damage caused to hair as a result of pollution and city life. As increasing numbers of Irish people now live in cities, we are noticing a difference in our hair. Hence the endless parade of products that have come through my bathroom - frizz easing, glossing, smoothing - oh, I’ve been there.
But the lovely Philip offers us succor in the form of his range of treatments, such as his yum sounding White Truffle Nourishing Hair...

Ah DuWop - how well do I love thee? Oh, loads. A bit like the love a lot of us have for a man who’s very hard to catch, I suspect that a considerable amount of the appeal of DuWop for me is the fact it’s pretty elusive.
Make up obsessive that I am, I actually only own a couple of things by them, one of them being my lovely Bronzerrush.
But I seriously covet almost everything they make - gorgeous shadow trios, perfect pout plumpers (Lip Venom, anyone?) and lots of other lovely clever little products like their ace Hands2Hair, a handcream and hair styling product in one! Rub through hair and then rub into paws - great hair, soft hands. All that for €24.50? Bargain!
You can buy Duwop from HQhair, or if you’re in Dublin, Nue Blue Eriu will happily oblige......

Taken from wikipediaThe ancient peoples of Ireland - such as the creators of the Ceide Fields and Newgrange - are almost unknown. Neither their language(s?) nor terms they used to describe themselves have survived. As late as the middle centuries of the 1st millennium AD the inhabitants of Ireland did not appear to have a collective name for themselves. Ireland itself was known by a number of different names – Banba, Scotia, Fódla, Ériu by the islanders; Hibernia and Scotia to the Romans; Ierne to the Greeks.Likewise, the terms for people from Ireland – all from Roman sources – in the late Roman era were varied. They included Attacotti, Scoti, and Gael. This last word, derived from the Welsh gwyddel (meaning raiders), was eventually adopted by the Irish for themselves. However, as...

Especially for Glittergirl and Pinkmiram, who have been bemoaning the demise of their favourite limited edition Guerlain Sunset Celebration bronzers, here’s a new recommendation for a top-notch bronzer. I have it on extremely good authority that this is one of the best of the newest launches. It’s by DuWop and it’s called Bronzerush.
It’s packaged in a Willy Wonkaesque slim gold case and what’s inside is equally as nice - the bronzer is a very sheer, fine powder that goes on beautifully. That’s not all - you also get this gorgeous red gel blush which you put on afterwards to add colour to your cheeks. It’s FAHHHHBULOUS, darlink.
And it’s not too pricey either - €35 in Nue Blue Eriu....

Oh girls, you know how it is. Your nethers are in a terrible state and you need to book that waxing appointment, but your boss might hear you doing it! Aaaaiieee! Plus, which one of us would ever abuse the phone and e-mail systems at work for personal use? Oh not a one of us, ahem.
So what do you do? Do you continue to look like Gorilla Woman for ever more, or do you find a way around the dilemma?
Oh you do, with the help of Nue Blue Eriu’s innovative booking system. They say they’re certain that they’ve got “the world’s first interactive therapy booking system, akin to that of an airline reservation system“. Technology and beauty colliding? Oh we like the sound of that. The booking engine was over 2 years in the making, and it “allows you to...

Nic needs help, as she suffers from black heads around her nose. She has very good skin, with maybe just the odd dry patch now and then but these blackheads are the bane of her life!! Can we recommend anything to help?
Yup - it seems Mario Badescu Silver Powder is the answer to your prayers Nic - we’ve had umteen discussions on beaut.ie about the pesky problem of blackheads, or congestion as we politely call them, and this stuff is getting thumbs up left, right, and centre.
We blogged about it first in a post about the annoyance of still getting spots in your 20’s and 30’s, and then Ava tried it out, and raved about it. You can get it from Nue Blue Eriu or HQhair....

Ah, our national week long festival of drunkeness Irishness is upon us. In honour, lets have a little look at some delicious green makeup treats!
Too Faced Lucky Charms is just perfect, really, isn’t it? Perfect colours, and a more than perfect Leprechaun based name! It’s a duo eyeshadow in Too Face’s signature packaging, containing a base and a highlight colour. This picture doesn’t do it justice - the shades are far more vibrant in real life. Too Faced shadows are full of pigment, and this is a gorgeous green duo you’ll be wearing long past St. Patrick’s Day. Buy from Too Faced stockists such as Boots, House of Fraser and Debenhams. It’ll probably be in and around €20.
Du Wop’s Ashley Paige Hopper is my next pick - Mmm-hhmm - would you...

It’s congestion day on beaut.ie by the looks of things! We’ve discussed my adventures with Roc, I’ve given tips on how to extract the buggers, and Aphrodite has even found us a blackhead gun!
So this is very appropriate - I blogged the other day about InStyle mags Hall of Fame and their 2007 Best Beauty Buys. Well, their number one, tip of the top, cream of the crop ‘Best Mask for Congested Skin’ prize went to Eve Lom’s Rescue Mask.
It’s apparently amazing at boosting tired, blotchy and congestion prone skin, and like all Eve Lom products, it’s a firm fave of celebs and those in the know. You can get Eve Lom facials at Nue Blue Eriu in Dublin, but their site doesn’t seem to indicate they sell the products (though I would have thought...

One of our many, many male fans asked us if we could recommend him somewhere in Dublin to have his first facial. Well male fan, you might be surprised to know that a lot of salons are unisex. Unless it specifically says women only, you’re generally in luck. So that means lots of delicious choice!
Sanas, where myself, Aphrodite and the very manly Remington sojourned a couple of weeks ago are only too delighted to smooth the skins of men such as yourself. They’re in Churchtown, and you’ll find more details on their website. Nue Blue Eriu, on South William St not only sell gorgeous luxe products but they’ll also happily slap them on your phizog too. The Madison Clinic and Day Spa on Liffey St also have a load of therapies for men including waxing, spray tanning as...

Christmas is a great time to buy the man in yer life a few little skincare and shaving treats that he probably wouldn’t buy himself. We’ve thought about this long and hard, and our suggestions are as follows:
Knights of The Green (Dundrum & Stephens Green, Dublin) have a range of American Crew sets for men - in particular the Peppermint Cleanse Shampoo & Pomade set for €12 would make a really nice stocking filler.
What about a voucher for a hot towel shave? Men who’ve had them rave about them and for the man who won’t get a facial (lets face it, most of them), this is a manly way to get a bit of pampering. In Dublin, Knights of the Green can oblige you with a voucher for one, as can the Waldorf Barbershop in Westmoreland...

 Dear Fans of the Glitz,
I am sorry I didn’t get an entry up yesterday, I was too intent on getting up items about perfumes and actually doing work I am paid to do etc. Here’s one for you now though, and the fab kissandmakeup.tv site has some other great glittery suggestions too.
We’ve pretty much covered all the glitter and sparkle you could fit on one face, so I’ve been saving these up for a while. They’re Shu Uemura’s FANTASTIC false eyelashes. You can get them in all sorts of wonderful varieties, but for Christmas I’m most interested in the Classic Diamante ones. They’re lashes with a with a silver diamante strip up at the lashline and will give your peepers a gorgeous catch-the-light twinkle.
The Dazzling Diamante ones (above) ramp...

I know what Himself is getting - Paul Smith’s new Story fragrance (below left). He has no choice in this matter, I like it and that’s that. Ah no, I’m not that mean, he is a fan of Paul Smith’s original Eau de Toilette (second left, €38.50, 50ml - also a good bet for the man in your life) and I do think he’ll like this one too - it’s very fresh and clean, with a hint of melon about it. Yum! You won’t get this cheap online because it’s new, so expect to pay about €50 for it.
In my experience, the fella in your life won’t wear just anything. It’ll have to be by someone credible and it’ll have to smell good. DKNY scores in this regard - both Be Delicious (middle, €33.50, 50ml) and the original Eau de Toilette (€34.50,...

Not just for little dresses, this also applies to makeup. When I’m in a hurry or just plain feeling un-inspired, I reach for my black shadow. It’s an old reliable and I wouldn’t be without the 45 of them I own.
You don’t have to just choose plain matte black - though that can look really good too. MAC do great black eye shadows - try their Carbon or Black Tied shadows on your eyelid and then add a slick of Benefit’s High Beam across the browbone. Put a tiny dab of gold shadow in the inner eye to finish - this can be a simple but dramatic look.
For a black with sparkle, look no further than Urban Decay’s Oil Slick shadow. It’s got loads of silver glitter throughout. Delish.
Coloured blacks look fantastic too - NARS do some great coloured blacks...

The not so simple answer is that it depends on where you live, how fancy the salon is, what type of facial it is, and what products they’re using. They’re not cheap though. Here’s a few from the Dublin area - all gleaned from their websites so I take no responsibilty for incorrect prices!
It’s also always worth checking out local salons in your area - they can be just as good as fancier places, not to mention easier to get an appointment in.
Nue Blue Eriu (Suffolk St, Dublin 2)
Daniele de Winter Facial Mediterranean Magic. This particular facial drenches your skin with moisture and helps to purify the skin with gentle cleansers, toners and moisturizers. €80 in the shop, €75 if you book online.

In the past few months I have discovered Elemis skin care products, thanks to the strangely addictive shopping channel QVC. It is a range that is normally only available in premium spas around the world. They have recently started to branch out into retail and there is now an Elemis counter and some spa treatments available in Debenhams in London and here in Ireland at the Harvey Nichols store in Dundrum.
I don’t usually get taken in by all these miracle cream claims and am pretty low maintenance, but I was so impressed by the presentation given by QVC’s resident Elemis therapist Keeley that I decided to give it a go. (The great thing about buying from QVC is that there is a 30 day no quibble money back guarantee regardless of how much you have used the creams! I have yet to...
