Some new names today for the Picnic.
Wolf Parade - could be amazing or could prove to have rapidly diminishing returns.
Brendan Perry - him from Dead Can Dance – ask your parents.
Stars - Montreal miserabilists with one decent tune.
Black Mountain – Another Canadian band who might be worth a look. Edit: Actually I just listened: rubbish.
K’Naan - Coca Cola flag waver.
Heathers – they might be twins .
Rubberbandits feat. Crystal Swing – there are no words….
The LittleBig Dance Tent gets some names added:
Sebastien Leger – French house DJ.
Dan le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip – It was good the first time around..

The Body and Soul Gathering is, as they put it themselves, the realisation of a dream and Ireland’s most amazing secret garden. Based on the evidence of this scorching celebration of the Summer solstice, they’ve hit the nail pretty much on the head. Situated in the hidden environs of Ballinlough Castle, the Body and Soul idea will be familiar to thousands of those who have attended Electric Picnic over the years. This gathering is all about celebrating and expanding the ideas that made Body and Soul a highlight of every Picnic, in a truly unique kind of environment. The atmosphere of relaxation, honesty and freedom may not suit some people but for the thousand-odd revellers that made the trip it seems to have gone down just perfect.

Yes, dear readers, this is a photo of me with the mighty Crystal Swing. Now, you might have thought that I'd be altogether too surly a sort of fucker to request photos with such folk, but you'd be wrong. As of this moment, Andrew is happily going on record as stating that quasi-incestuous, hucklebucking langerpop is very much the way forward. Now, a few questions you may have regarding said photo:Where? The Flatlake Festival in Co. Monaghan, a glorious mix of parish fete tweeness, Monaghan underager boozefest, and serious literature thinktank. As curated by Patrick McCabe - warped mind behind The Butcher Boy.Why is the photo so blurred? When I saw Crystal Swing being harangued for photos by passers-by I decided that this was an opportunity to good to pass up. Rosie concurred, but was...

Yeah, we’re Mayo’s answer to the Royal Tenenbaums. Except without the personality flaws. Table quiz glory aside, there were many, many highlights at this gloriously dog-eared festival: Barry McGuigan’s nifty Footloose. Livin Dred Theatre’s mightily impressive production of Pat McCabe’s Emerald Germs of Ireland. Jinx Lennon. Hell, even the programme notes were entertaining. (”The legendary Toblerones are back – fatter, balder and poorer than ever!”) Much was made of the hilarious incongruity of Lily Allen’s (shambolic) Saturday night joint appearance with Crystal Swing. But to my mind, pairing Shane McGowan with Mundy was equally lobsided. (The man who wrote A Pair of Brown Eyes alongside the man who gave us “Oh my-my-my / oh...

It’s the bank holiday weekend, whoop! While the temptation is there to lie in a darkened room nursing your hangover, you should get out there and do something worthwhile with your extra day off. With that in mind, SaveAFewBob have looked into some of the events that are taking place around the country, and here are a few that guarantee a good time, but that won’t break the bank:
Bandon Music Festival
This west Cork festival, now in its 14th year, will he hosting a wide range of musical acts, including Jack L, Delorentos and Corkonians’ favourite, Fred. Tickets to see these headline acts are only €10 and €5; there will also be plenty of free music events taking place around the town for the duration of the long weekend. You won’t find a better value music festival in Ireland...

Yesterday marked the beginning of my summer holidays and tomorrow marks the beginning of the Galway Powerboat Festival. Last year, Galway hosted the Volvo Ocean Race and it was very successful. They have reopened the Race Village also. Another event happening over here is the Little Havana Festival being held in the Latin Quarter with some familiar faces performing, for example, Crystal Swing.

so i went to hmv on henry street during my break to pick up the new trentemøller album, into the great wide yonder (though that just makes me think of tom petty…). they’ve really changed things up in there – no more music downstairs! i remember a time when a whole side of the room was hip-hop – then it became a section, then a smaller section and so forth over the years. now it’s all games and ayyyyyyyyo, technology down there, and hip-hop and dance have tiny units on the ground floor. such progress, huh.
what actually struck me first as i walked in today, however, was that the five-disc edition of blade runner (albeit without the metal box and, probably, hologram) is now on sale for €6.99. SIX NINETY NINE. that’s just crazy. i was given a gift of...

How long before someone tries swing Crystal Swing?
The Swinger is a bit of python code that takes any song and makes it swing. It does this be taking each beat and time-stretching the first half of each beat while time-shrinking the second half. It has quite a magical effect.

Review of Mark Knopfler O2 Dublin
Happy to pencil off seeing another great of modern music at the O2 tonight and a real treat to see one of my guitar heros and one of the best living guitarists, Mark Knopfler, lead singer and guitarist with Dire Straits.
I mention his old band as not a lot of people I talked to beforehand seemed to know who he is/was! Dire Straits are responsible for all time greats such as “Money for Nothing”, “Sultans of Swing”, “Walk of Life”, “Romeo & Juliet”, “Brother’s in Arms” and a lot more, only some of which he played tonight, preferring instead to focus on his own solo stuff, not a lot of which I knew but it didn’t really matter to me what he played! I knew it would all be great...

Acclaimed television psychic Tony Stockwell is coming to UCH, Limerick on Sunday 16th May. Tony is of course a master manipulator and a complete fraud. So why am I advertising his show?
Well here is a video of Tony in action. He's good, he's got genuine talent. I haven't seen such calm, professional cold reading techniques in years. He plays the persona of the medium very well and is much less of an amped-up alpha-male, and thus far more likeable, than John Edward.
Watch the first six minutes of this video and come back for my analysis. I picked this clip practically at random, but more specifically because it's a long unedited read.
Did you count the questions/assertions? Well I did, there were twenty-seven. Wow! Twenty-seven distinct messages from the spirit...

Eircom and ‘next-generation’ broadband
Price gouging comes to Dublin
eircom today have announced their “Next Generation Broadband” promising speeds of up to 8MB to all subscribers, they claim to have also finally addressed the contention issue (which they call congestion). What is not in the headlines is the subtle but important change from a speed based model to a usage based model of charging.

Let us be clear on this announcement, this is neither Next Generation...

New State.ie
Not content with the wildly successful Intervention series that I mentioned the other day, State have just launched a new-look redesigned site that makes everything at least one billion times better than before. We’ve gone slick slick slick, with new menu designs and things that work with handy little tab-style displays. I don’t understand one tiny bit of the code and stuff involved but it is the shizz as far as I’m concerned. The new site is going to increase focus on features and new endeavours like the intervention series and also includes a new photo gallery format where you’ll get to see my work in all it’s glory.

This is the same setlist as for all Jedward's other Irish (and UK) shows. It takes a lot of effort to put on a show this amazing you know? There's only a few dates left, so if you didn't make it to one of their many shows around the country, you can catch them this week at Dublin, Limerick, or Galway. When that's over, I'm sure you can go see Crystal Swing. Just as good as X Factor's John and Edward Grimes, right?Setlist: 1. I Gotta Feeling (by the Black Eyed Peas) 2.
