Africa Day! What a sunny and colourful day it was. The festival in Iveagh Gardens last Sunday brought a new energy and vibe to the city. The day was filled with music, dance, performances and overall it was a celebration of the diversity, potential and unrivalled energy of the continent.
The festival was organised by Irish Aid which is the government’s overseas aid programme. Working on behalf of Irish people, they help to tackle Africa’s most pressing issues such as poverty and hunger. Throughout May Irish Aid is supporting events celebrating African culture and the Irish African community.
So far Connector has been involved in various fundraising events in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital, Haiti and Movember.
As May in Ireland is...

Well Movember is over and I must say it was a weird experience spending just over a month with a hairy face for the first time ! The Movember Gala Finale Party in Tripod on the 3rd Dec was great fun and well done to Matt & Chewy and the guys from Thinkhouse PR for such a fine party. A few Paulaners were used to lubricate the tache for the first time as it had been a dry month !
I am pictured with the Lynx Minx and enjoying my blue steel moments. Having a party to reward the moustahioed community was a great idea and Lynx helped to add a bit of badly needed glamour to an otherwise male dominated night out.
It is a fantastic fundraising idea and the Mo’nnector team raised many hairy lip children and approx €350 for Prostrate......

This blog had suffered due to good work I’ve been doing for Movember, the men’s moustache growing charity. Last night marked the official end of Movember in Ireland with the Gala Parté in Tripod. Our team dressed fabulously in Disney dress that had Walt probably turning his cryogenic grave. I dressed as Pedro Pan and following dancing naked at the IADT ‘Miracle on Store Street’ Xmas do with all but a green pair of tights on. Meneo, the man responsible for all the magical nakedness that ensued played a stormer with his GameBoy and if you ever get the opportunity to see them make sure you do.......

After a well received support slot from fellow Brooklynites I’m In You, a five-piece rock band take to the stage sporting leftover movember ‘taches. With the exception of an added cellist, the band look like any other rock outfit. But this is Julian Plenti a.k.a. Paul Banks a.k.a. yer man from Interpol. Banks has won over critics and fans with the release of Julian Plenti is … Skyscraper and though the album is an unabashed success the unavoidable comparisons to the powerhouse that is Interpol the live show is another matter entirely.
The opening track is an odd choice; it’s not one off the album but rather an instrumental version of J. Dilla’s ‘Mythsysizer’, a nod to his other moniker as hip-hop DJ Fancypants. It may be unfamiliar to most but it’s an impressive start...

Over the past 30 days, I’ve grown a Mo. A Selleck-like monstrosity which threatens to take over my face. If there’s something I’ve learned, it’s that I’m much too grey to have a ginger moustache. Though it was sometimes comforting, it was also itchy and required proper maintenance and care otherwise it looked even worse.
Anyway – here is the Month of the Mo....

For the last 30 days I like many other blokes, have been tentatively growing shoots of hair atop my upper lip in the vain hope of becoming more masculine and most importantly to raise funds and awareness for the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Prostate Cancer. Prostate cancer affects one in nine men in the UK and Ireland. The whole month has been defined by seeing other dudes on the street and mates with ginger, novelty, funny, binman and curled taches. It’s been a fun experience.
With thanks to 15 Movember donators, I have raised €275 so far but as today is the last day, if you have a spare fiver or tenner, please visit this link to donate by Laser or Card. It’s for a great cause. As it’s for charity, a picture of me with my mo and tickler is after the jump....

Fred played in the Opera House last night and it was a really enjoyable gig. The first support act was a guy called Joel Plaskett. He is a Canadian singer songwriter from Nova Scotia! I loved the song he sang about his cat ‘white fang’ that has no ears and looks like a baby seal. Delorentos were the second support act and they played an energetic set. The lead singer was sporting a moustache in aid of Movember and looked a bit demented especially with his mad curly hair. The band did a good job of warming up the crowd for Fred. There was a little break and then Fred came on and gave a very upbeat performance. They played a good mix of songs and when they came back on for an encore they were all wearing check shirts. The drummer swopped with the guitar player and led the band...

Usually, once the clocks go back, my multiple bottles of tanning lotions and potions and unctions go into cold storage together with the bikinis and the sunglasses and the dreams of long hot Irish summer days.
But this year, with all the extra time that my career break from the day job is affording me, I’m clinging to those fake tan bottles for dear life. Because no matter how much I try to embrace my inner New Moon, Sudocream-coloured R Patz, I know that God meant me to be a couple of shades darker of skin. I just look so much feckin’ better and, well, less undead vamp with a birrova tan.
Step up St. Tropez Rapide Facial Bronzer, €27.50. This is a gel tanner with a pump top dispenser that I tried in Dark-Intense, which might seem mad given my decidedly un-olive colouring...

Its been nearly a month since my last blog post! God, time flys. I have been taking part in Movember for the last month. Movemeber encourages men to grown facial hair, with the aim of raising money for action prostate cancer and the Irish cancer society. Its a great cause and you can make a donation, I already have about €145.
When I was at Sinéad Keogh’s chocolate party, myself and Rick O’Shea got into a conversation about the “growing” trend in beards. I have no doubt that Movember has kicked off this trend and has given men an excuse to let go and take a break from shaving.
This got us thinking about domain names and to my surprise the first domain name beard.ie was available. On a second glance so was beards.ie, talk about luck! Within 48 hours I had...

Another quick #Movember update. If you’re feeling flush, then pop along to my sponsorship site and throw some cash in there. It’s for prostate cancer; one of the ‘it won’t happen to me’ afflictions.
We’re now on Day 17 of the month and the moustache is starting to get uncomfortable. Owning a Mo means a lot more work. You become concerned with the appearance of it and find it necessary to carefully trim to keep it even – never mind the absolutely necessary trimming to keep the hairs out of your mouth. I have become concerned whether the Mo needs some sort of conditioner to soften the spiky bristles which make up male facial hair and I do fret a little that it’s not harbouring morsels from my last meal. It’s really a lot of stress.
But...
