Step Into My Office Please via Meet Mabel & Violet, Jul 13th, 2010 at 15:09

image Finally, another ta-daaah moment. They’ve been a bit thin on the ground on this blog of late but that’s all about to change thanks to a mighty big push to get the gaff sorted! There is a reason for that too but details will have to wait for another post at a later date because it’s all a bit hush you see. Oh the intrigue! So this is how the office looked a short while ago, above. Remember this post about my wallpaper indecision? It was a close contest but the Ferm Living Black Fir Tree Wallpaper won the vote in the end and here are the results… The cushions are also from Ferm Living except for the orange one that I made from some vintage fabric bought at a local market. The prints are actually postcards designed by Sanna Annukka. I love her work but until I can... Similar posts

Wallpaper Wednesday: Sanderson Vintage via Garrendenny Lane Interiors, May 26th, 2010 at 21:53

image And more wonderful wallpapers – all from Sanderson’s latest Vintage collecton which celebrates their 150 years in business and draws on the most fabulous wallpapers from their archive.  It was lovely to see them at the ID&A show at the RDS recently.   Here’s my favourites: Sanderson’s Vintage Primavera  – the design was taken from a hand blocked wallpaper printed on gold foil dating from 1926, and features rhododendron leaves amongst stylised fruit and flower motifs in the distinctive Art Deco style. Available  in four colourways, this grape/chocolate colourway is my favourite. Early Tulips was originally designed as a fabric in 1929.  The original sample shows a full arrangement of colourful tulip heads painted with a highly textured effect. Now... Similar posts

Wallpaper Dilemma via Meet Mabel & Violet, Apr 26th, 2010 at 19:53

image We’re living in the midst of chaos here again at the moment while we re-decorate our two spare bedrooms. Thankfully, they are the last two rooms that need to be overhauled so the dirty work is almost finished for good. The larger room used to be my office but will now become the guest bedroom, while the smaller room was a teeny tiny guest bedroom and will be transformed into my new office. I came up with that idea all by myself!  Meanwhile, all the contents of both rooms are piled up in the living room and hallway so it feels like we’re back to living in a dust filled, messy cesspit all over again. D'Office in its current state Anyway, enough moaning about positive problems, the real issue is that I’m having a major indecisive moment and I could really use some... Similar posts

Wallpaper Wednesday via Garrendenny Lane Interiors, Apr 21st, 2010 at 18:29

image I almost forgot that it is Wednesday! Yukari sent me this photo this morning of her gorgeous Manor House Damask Wallpaper.  In keeping with the Japanese tradition of working with the seasons, each colourway is named after a different season and this one is Spring and has been really popular lately. Featuring elegant candleabras and chandeliers, it really is whimsical and exquisite and of course, you can purchase it here at Garrendenny Lane! And there is now a cushion available in a matching fabric. Isn’t it gorgeous. 60 cm x 40 cm €82 and available... Similar posts

Wallpaper Wednesday – Wallpaper in a Bathroom via Garrendenny Lane Interiors, Apr 7th, 2010 at 08:50

image How about this for perfect symmetry!  A lovely image from Ideal Homes magazine. So many bathrooms have tiles on the floor and walls and some wallpaper can really bring more interest and warmth to this room. The monochrome floral wallpaper creates plenty of impact but any wallpaper in strong colours would look divine. Here it is mounted onto a thin strip of MDF the same width as the sink.  The only thing is – if you have children like mine, then use a much high glass splashback to protect the wallpaper . Actually this would have to be a guest bathroom as I can just imagine how tousled those towels would be after my hubby or kids! Wouldn’t Watelet Delft by Designers Guild look divine in a...... Friday Fix-It – Upstairs Landing via Garrendenny Lane Interiors, Mar 19th, 2010 at 05:05

image This Friday’s  ‘Interior Design solution’ post is doubling as a ‘Before and After’.  Here is a suggestion for an upstairs landing – how to have an attractive wall visible to the people in the hall downstairs yet not too flamboyant and ‘in your face’.  Here is a photo from a client’s hallway.  I only have the ‘after’ photo but all I did was add the wallpaper on the landing.  It is a dormer house and the stairs leads to 2 bedrooms.  As you can see, there are gorgeous tiles on the hall floor, a lovely stairs and the paint colour on the hall is a beautiful green.  My client wanted something for upstairs, yet we didn’t want to take away from the hall.  I wanted to create the effect that people would glimpse it as... Wonderful Wallpaper on Wednesdays via Garrendenny Lane Interiors, Mar 10th, 2010 at 19:40

image Well, wonderful wallpaper can be seen any day of the week but I’m trying to return to my Wallpaper Wednesday and Fabric Friday posts again. It’s been interesting the last week chatting to new clients on the phone, almost each client I am seeing in the next week (well, 5 out of 6 so far) all want wallpaper as well as fabric.  Wallpaper has certainly made a comeback in the interiors pages and it is great to see so many people asking for it again and asking for it on the entire room rather than the one wall. Here’s my wallpaper choices for today (you’d never guess I have a penchant for small geometric pattern would you??): Susses wallpaper - Nabucco collection by Designers Guild Sussex is an elegant small scale geometric motif in a range of glowing colours... Wallpaper on Ceilings via Garrendenny Lane Interiors, Feb 24th, 2010 at 15:08

image We have had wallpaper on feature walls, wallpaper on all four walls (which is still very fashionable) and the look for 2010 is going to be wallpaper on the ceilings.  I guess when one thinks of all the ornate plastered ceilings in grand manor houses, it is a bit of a surprise that it took this long to catch on.  Mind you, most of us don’t have the grand high ceilings of the Sistine Chapel so what will it look like in ordinary houses?  Here’s a few pictures to give you an idea. Maybe ceilings have been overlooked in recent years particularly with the return in popularity of wallpaper on all four walls.  This picture from the House to Home website shows very plain walls and a very decorative ceiling. I like the way the wallpaper has been extended down to picture rail... Similar posts
