Duke Special at The Model, June 6th via Sligo Events, Apr 20th, 2010 at 22:54

Duke Special is a Belfast artist with an unique sound, often referred to as “vaudeville.” His songs are shaped by an omnipresent piano, harps, brass, strings and—his trademark on stage—an old gramophone. The result are very romantic and passionate little hymns with the Duke’s soft vocals. Since the release of Songs From The Deep Forest, Duke Special has toured across Ireland, the UK and Europe. From headlining a packed-to-the-rafters Shepherds Bush Empire in London to stage diving at Electric Picnic, hosting five nights back-to-back at Belfast’s Empire Music Hall to appearing as a special guest performer at the Cannes Film Festival, being twice nominated for the Choice Music Prize for Album of the year, Duke Special has come further than he ever imagined he might. Quattro celebration this Valentine’s Day with Netnakisum via Sligo Events, Feb 11th, 2010 at 23:13

image Netnakisum are an all female quartet from Vienna in Austria. The group have been hailed by the press as mistresses of sheer musicianship who are great fun and a mixture of classical and world music. When they take the stage, hips and bright-coloured Dirndls ( Austrian national dress) swing. Tradition flirts with the erotic, where the over the top use of traditional costume is a flippant take on widespread conservative mentality. But provocation is not their business, nor their intention. The use of costumes highlights their way of playing with the old fashioned and the contemporary. Netnakisum (the German word for “traditional musician”, spelled backwards) reverse themselves and the audience’s expectations – not only through wordplay and striking scenery:... Similar posts
