 Too good to be true!
I have been using au pair/family finding sites for the last 4 years and as mentioned in my earlier blog posting, we have been lucky to find really nice and genuine au pairs. It is very disappointing to see that not everyone using such sites is a genuine au pair and a genuine host family. There are a few unscrupulous individuals that will try to scam you. Be smart and be safe - validate everything because some schemes are elaborate involving false identities, false doctors, false travel agencies etc. Don’t be fooled by them; don’t let them to manipulate you by the lies in their e-mails and calls.
Tips that will help you to determine that your au pair/host family are genuine:
Trust your intuition. Please use common sense and caution if you have any...

SMALL businesses are being warned to be wary as the latest wave of a multi-million euro international financial scam hits Ireland.
Labiur TD Ciarán Lynch said, “Most of us are aware of the standard ‘Nigerian 419 Scam’, where a supposed son of a deceased oil baron or senior government official will contact a business or an individual with a promise of countless thousands of euro, in exchange for their banking details.
“However, there now appears to be a new level of sophistication involved, and instead of contacting people by email, these conmen are now contacting people directly in writing. A small business in my own constituency drew my attention to a letter that they had received in recent days.
“The letter seems to originate from New York and purports to be from...

If you are getting an email which is from “Facebook Security” with the subject line of “Facebook Password Reset Confirmation! Customer Message.” – please delete this message as it contains a virus. First off, this has nothing to do with Facebook – the owners and company of Facebook are constantly striving to keep people aware of the latest security issues.
The full body of the email is shown below – my anti-virus system found and quarantined the virus before the payload could be activated but there may be people out there who don’t know this.

We are getting a lot of calls to the office this week asking about the following email that many people are getting. It is s scam, delete it, these people know that many people in Ireland are claiming more tax back etc
Scam Email = Delete.
If you do get an email like this just look at the location of the link that the image will bring you too. It will be a strange website address that hopefully google will have blocked by now.
My advice is to delete then call us to set up a spam filter for your email so these type of emails are not slowing down your business day. You are busy enough without having to deal with this type of confusing email.

<heavy sarcasm>I was delighted </heavy sarcasm> to receive my reminder from Internet Register Ireland this morning dated Dezember 2009 [sic.] as it reminds me that it’s time for me to warn you all to beware these scammers. We’re obviously not alone as there has been an increase in trackbacks and comments on our original post on this matter. As one of our commenters points out at least it’s on Recycled Paper (you gotta love those Germans! ) and this is what you should do with this letter on receipt: recycle it.
If you ever receive a letter or an email inviting you to join a directory, do a link exchange or other such activities always, always do a search about the company. Don’t just visit their site: it may look fine to you, it may even look...

Here’s another of those Internet Directory scams that is doing the rounds a lot lately.
The Internet Register Ireland is very similar to the European City Guide scam, it looks a little more legit in that it has an Irish phone number to fax the registration form to.
Whatever you do, don’t even think about returning this form. If you do, expect a bill of €958 every year for absolutely nothing (well you may get a link in a useless web directory).
You’ve been warned!

A German company claiming to be Internet Register Ireland has been doing the rounds again the last few weeks sending letters to some of our customers, including ourselves. The letter which is very professional looking offers the recipient an opportunity to join their database of businesses. Sounds good ?
The problem is the small print. On reading this you will see that they charge €958 per year to be listed. Our advice if you get one of these letters is to throw it in the bin .
If you have signed and sent off the letter, contact your solicitor and make sure legally they cannot pursue you for the money. A sample of the letter is shown......

SMALL Irish businesses are being warned to be wary as the latest wave of a multi-million euro international internet scam hits Ireland.
Labour TD Ciarán Lynch said, “Small businesses are being stung for almost €3,000 by a company that is purporting to be an internet registry company when in fact it is no such thing.
“The company based in Germany is writing to Irish companies with a form which looks like it is providing a free listing to an internet directory. I got one of these forms myself and having come across this scam before, it was immediately clear to me what was going on.
“The fact that they had categorised my web site www.ciaranlynch.ie as that of a restaurant, was evidence that they whatever this company was, it was not a serious professionally run...
