I like to follow trends in auction sites and online shopping portals. On the auction side of things, Ebay have had the market sewn up for a number of years now. There are however some interesting alternatives cropping up all the time. Look at classified services like craigslist and the recently launched Google-base, which offer free classified listings. There are also some interesting niche auction sites. Etsy.com, which I came across recently, is an auction site devoted to hand crafted goods. It has a large selection of auctions with a nice web 2.0 interface.
