Review: And Then Came Lola via gaelick, today at 08:45

image Showing as part of the GAZE festival, And Then Came Lola is a blast of a film, some much-needed fresh air on a somewhat stifling (for women anyway) programme. This is what happens when, after years of some great lesbian films but mostly awful lesbian films, the viewers get involved. Ellen Seidler and Megan Siler were obviously watching films and thinking “Jesus, I could do better than that!” They were right, they can. And Then Came Lola is a fast-paced, slick comedy that will give your funny bone a good workout. It tells the story of Lola (Ashleigh Sumner, right), a photographer who thinks she’s cool but is just flaky. Fate takes a hand when her girlfriend (Jill Bennett) calls her up and begs for her help. She is given three chances to get to her lady on time. During the... Similar posts

Where next for Hollywood? via poetbloggs.net, today at 04:34

Moviefone has some suggested titles for Hollywood book adaptations – including In The Night Kitchen, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret and Anastasia Krupnik. Blume’s book has a solid status in the annals of popular culture: ‘Margaret’ has inspired everything from a ‘South Park’ episode to rock song titles to, most recently, Chelsea Handler’s 2008 best-seller ‘Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea.’ With that kind of following, a movie version of ‘Margaret’ is nearly guaranteed to go gangbusters at the box office. I’d love to see a film of Under The Hawthorn Tree. Or even a screen adaptation of Mr Gum – now that would be fun! Any suggestions for books that should make it to the silver screen?... Similar posts

So Dreamy via First Three Chapters, Jul 27th, 2010 at 18:15

image Inception is definitely the best movie I've seen in the last five years. I find dreams very interesting, so I knew I'd like it, but I couldn't have anticipated how truly amazing it would be. It reminded me how much I love movies. And also how much I used to love Leonardo DiCaprio. When I was twelve years old, Titanic was released, and my obsession with Leo began. My friends and I were all in love with him, but I had the most in common with him. See, I'd bought his unauthorised biography, and was stunned by the amount of similarities between us. We were both Scorpios. We both played keyboard. We both spoke 'some' German. We both liked acting. For my twelve-year-old self, this was enough to convince me that we were meant to be together. My cousin Lynda and I watched Titanic at least... Similar posts

Video Vimeo Youtubeo via Paudies Photoblog, Jul 26th, 2010 at 23:49

So I had a go at trying to edit my own video for once. Took a good twenty minutes to get this together, and it was only an eight second clip. But it’s another step along the road towards an Oscar. It’s Shane o’Connor again, a little unlucky this time, but it’s a nice wave so I thought I’d share. Let me know if there’s any noticeable difference in Quality for you. And what you think of the editing. A bit heavy handed with the contrast I reckon. Shane O’Connor Part II from Paudie Scanlon on... Similar posts

Review: Cracks via gaelick, Jul 26th, 2010 at 15:04

image howing as part of the GAZE festival, Cracks is the story of adults acting like kids and kids trying to act like adults. One thing it ain’t is lesbian, so its inclusion in the festival programme seems odd. Miss G (bottom right) is a teacher in a really rather awfully spiffing English boarding school in the 1930’s. She is gorgeous, sophisticated and all of the girls adore her. Some more than others, as many have crushes (or cracks) on her. One such pupil is Di, who is also the captain of the school’s diving team and head prefect. Di expects everyone to heed her word and lavishes in the attention Miss G gives her. Enter the fly to the ointment. Fiamma is a Spanish aristocrat, a gorgeous young lady who will mature into a stunning woman. She is well-read, well-travelled and... Similar posts

White Material – A Film Review via No Ordinary Fool, Jul 26th, 2010 at 00:00

image Much has been made in recent months about how Werner Herzog and Nicholas Cage are tailor-made for each other. However, for fans of a certain type of cinema, the real sangreal has always been a collaboration between two strong, serious, and singular Frenchwomen in director Claire Denis and actress Isabelle Huppert respectively. Here, in this tense and forbidding depiction of a post-colonial African state, that quest has come to a successful end. Ms. Huppert plays the central figure here of Maria Vial, a woman who has lived for so long in this unnamed country that she no longer thinks of herself in ethnic terms. She runs a coffee plantation with varying degrees of support from the men in her life. Now, as rebellion flares up in the area, she mulishly chooses to ignore the writing on the... Similar posts

Shooting on the new Conan movie is going strong and should be finished soon if not already. Jason Stargate: Atlantis Mamoa certainly looks more like the artistic depictions of Robert E. Howard's character than Ahnold ever did. If it's any good remains to be seen.http://www.conan.com/http://www.conanmovieblog.com/SyFy's Battlestar Galactica spin-off Caprica will now not return until January... Similar posts

Don’t think of elephants - but do go to INCEPTION via Whopper's Bunker, Jul 24th, 2010 at 02:00

It's pretty straightforward to extract an idea from someones head, but a whole different ballgame to implant an original idea in there in such a way that makes the person think they came up with the idea themselves. That's the central premise of Inception, the latest movie from Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan, and if you can get your head around this fact as well as: time moves 10... Don’t dread Dredd via Whopper's Bunker, Jul 23rd, 2010 at 01:34

There's rumours abound that Karl Urban will be the next Judge Dredd. A script review appeared online recently and doen't sound too bad at all. The Sylvester Stallone one wasn't a masterpiece but still good enjoyable fun. I'm hoping this one won't be so "harmless" and that Urban isn't so egotistical about his face being in a movie than Sly [Judge Dredd must never appear without his helmet... Similar posts

The Fall Guy Reboot! - Sweet Lucas, Hollywood is really hell-bent on ressurecting dead franchises. Dreamworks are on the case of The Fall Guy, a once-beloved 80's TV show about a Hollywood stuntman who was also a bounty hunter played by Lee Majors.I pedict this will fail because the only thing good I remember about this show is the theme music and Heather Thomas, neither of which can...
