“Consumers could pay as much as €440 more for their car insurance, or 25 per cent more, if they buy their insurance from a broker than a company directly, according to a survey by The Sunday Business Post.”
The report goes on to say that going direct to an insurance company is a better option that going with a broker - “In only a handful of cases was it cheaper to use a broker.”
Without the report at hand, it’s difficult to see where the exact figures are coming from, and what medium is used to calculate these figures. For instance insurance companies may not give brokers the same discounting options online that they give to the broker call centres.
