Meeting Bosco via I Am Steph, Mar 31st, 2010 at 13:38

Won’t be giving up the day job any time soon unless Bog TV is looking for a dodgy presenter with little shame. As mortifying as the results are, it was still a bizarre and wonderful experience. The rest of the Irish Blog Awards videos are here for your viewing... Similar posts

We woz robbed, etc. via kDamo, Mar 30th, 2010 at 15:24

image Irish Blog Awards 2010 What a pile of bullshit! Who do they think they are? It’s a total fucking joke. I bet it’s cos he knows yer man and she is from the same county as that other guy. Who the fuck is Nialler9 anyway? How can a blog be about fashion and stuff? Galway is corrupt. It’s the end of the world as we know it. Sorry, just wanted to belatedly join in all the bitching. As you’d expect in this silly little country of ours, there are plenty of people whinging and moaning about the results of Saturday’s awards. There’s always a few who will find something to complain about. I think that’s all a bit embarrassingly petty though when everyone enjoyed a great night in Galway where we were treated to a fun and lively awards ceremony that was put... Similar posts

Some of the 168 slides from the IBA 2010 presentation via I Am Steph, Mar 29th, 2010 at 22:55

image Well-chosen words by whoever penned the script for the voiceover. Sad that it is so but c’est la vie. Sincere apologies once again for the error I made in compiling the presentation. I missed out on a screenshot of Stranded on Gaia for Best Blog Post and apologies (again) to Rick for what I guess you could call “rick-rolling” him with over-anxious slide clicking fueled by sheer nerves/adrenaline. Met some lovely new faces at both the Galway Twestival and the Blog Awards over the weekend, great to catch up and have some fun with some more familiar ones too. Discovering Kelly’s Bar on Sunday was a treat and getting the chance to see the folks (if ever so brief) was... Similar posts

Irish Blog Awards For The Win via sinéad, Mar 29th, 2010 at 20:59

image I was quite literally speechless on Saturday night when I heard I was a joint winner for Best Technology Blog at the Irish Blog Awards. I grabbed the fantastic Made In Hollywood “winner” tombstone (celebrating the death of blogging of course) as I was happier to prance away with that and let 3 time nominee, first time winner, Pat Phelan take the trophy home - a really well deserved winner. Though admittedly I’m looking forward to my own trophy making it’s way home. In the past year my blog has transitioned from being considered a personal blog to a technology blog, but honestly I don’t think I could ever really separate the two. Since a really young age technology has been an integral part of my daily life and this blog has been my outlet for my passion for... Similar posts

Oh what a night :) via red mum, Mar 29th, 2010 at 17:57

image That’s another Irish Blog Awards weekend over and in keeping with years past its Monday and I am yearning for my bed, which alludes to the fun we had. While I would have loved to have spent the whole weekend in Galway finances dictated it would be a one-night stay so on Saturday morning the Young Wan and I took the train on Saturday morning arriving in Galway at 2.30ish and getting our priorities right, we headed for the market and for some food. Getting in so late meant that I missed the photowalk and as we were meeting a pal who was also coming down from Dublin on a later train, I ended up missing the Ladies Tea too. But by all accounts both events went off well. And in fairness it was really lovely dandering around with my honey, taking our time and not being rushed or pressured into... Similar posts

The Blog Awards, The Video, The Aftermath via Ken McGuire, Mar 29th, 2010 at 10:05

SATURDAY took myself and a few hundred bloggers on a journey across the country to Galway or the fifth annual Irish Blog Awards. We had the motorway up, the scenic route home and in between had a fantastic evening / night / morning in the Radisson Blu in the centre of Galway, the shindig organised by some mighty fine people, assisted by other allstars, and attended by bloggers from all walks of life (more on that below). I’ve made it to the awards the last four years, enjoyed two great years of it in Dublin, last year in Cork and this year in Galway. Shows like this take a hell of a lot of ingredients, time, money, the patience of saints, sponsors, promotors, advertisers, volunteers and more. Behind the scenes there’s an army of people making contributions from writing up the... Similar posts

Picture the scene via Twenty Major - Still smoking in Dublin bars, Mar 29th, 2010 at 09:54

It is before noon, a bright Saturday morning in March. A man who should have known better to embark on a long drive without making a final slash the last thing he did before he left the house pulls off the motorway and into Kinnegad. He parks the car in front of a pub on the main street, expecting to walk into a quiet place, perhaps having to buy a coffee or a coke to be able to use the toilets. He pushes open the door and is greeted by raucous noise, a table of about 12-15 men are skulling pints and are not so much drunk as beyond drunk. They have that aura of booze surrounding them. The man goes to the bathroom and finds another man in there. He is staggering back from the urinal trying to complete the ever-tricky task of putting his cock back in his pants. “Howya”, says... Apologies to all the other Irish music bloggers nominated for always winning. Full list of winners:...... Similar posts

An less than Occasional Guide to Irish Politics: The Political Blogger via Daniel Sullivan - he's a little political, Mar 26th, 2010 at 13:57

image Image by Getty Images via Daylife He (and it’s almost certainly a he) is the self styled outsider on Irish politics, more often than not left leaning though with the odd libertarian fly in the ointment. Occasionally might work in PR or could have had a proper job in industry. Has an opinion on just about everything in sight and if presented with an issue he has never encountered before (what health coverage are Aliens - the the real 10ft tall slimy green kind- entitled to, at the taxpayer’s expense, while visiting Ireland as part of a fact finding mission) is prepared to make one up on the spot just to ensure that his views fill the air. image Yes the latest news in is that Goldenplec.com has made the final 5 blogs in the Best Music Blog Category of the Irish Blog Awards 2010. Its an honor to be in the final 5 of these awards. We made the finalists of the Irish Web Awards and now have been double blessed with a finalists position in the Bloggies. Our other top brass candidates for the Best Music Blog are Nialler9 (of course, it wouldnt be a music award category with him), Faith No More 2.0, Torture Garden, Swear I’m not Paul and of course ourselves making up the 5th position. The Category is sponsored by deStudio I wont be in Galway personally but my fellow Admin Kev should be making the trek down to represent the site in the unlikely event of winning (to be fair, Nialler has been the benchmark for a long... Om nom nom! The Irish Blog Awards 2010 via Culch.ie, Mar 20th, 2010 at 08:38

image David Maybury at the IBAs 2009 Screw the Oscars and the Golden Globes, the IFTAs and the Meteors; for Irish bloggers, there truly is only one awards night – for Irish bloggers, there is no better night out than the Irish Blog Awards. It’s the one night of the year where online meets offline, where the real and the fantasy collide in a cornucopian sea of bliss. Am I overselling it? No, I’m not. This is one damn fun night out. Just a year after its inception, Culch.ie is very very proud to be nominated in the Best Pop Culture category. We would like to thank those who nominated us in the first place and put us on the long list. We would like to thank the judges for being so kind to take us this far. We would like to thank the category sponsor, Insure.ie . And we would... Similar posts

Gearing Up For The Irish Blog Awards via Ken McGuire, Mar 12th, 2010 at 11:53

image A GUARANTEED good night out, solid entertainment, old faces and new and more have been found at the Irish Blog Awards for the last couple of years. Last year saw the first night to be held out of Dublin when hundreds of bloggers descended on Cork’s International Airport Hotel (cracking venue) and at the end of the month, the annual pilgrimage will be made to the Radisson Blu in Galway for the 2010 Irish Blog Awards. The long lists came out, then the slightly-longer-that-last-year-short-lists came out and we’ll soon be reading the finalists lists before the awards proper on Saturday March 27th where we’ll find out who the blogging public have deemed the creme of 2009/10 in Irish blogging circles. Sabrina has details on the L’Onglex Ladies Tea Party, there’s a... Similar posts
