Last night the 54th Eurovison song contest took place in Oslo, Norway. It was the first Eurovision i half-watched in years and it was pretty impressive. No Lordis or Dustins… a lot of entries actually trying to sing seriously. The only reason i had it on was because it was all twitter was talking about.. so curiosity got the better of me…
At the start, Spain’s entry was invaded by some random guy from the audience… they kept performing but got to sing all over again at the end for their troubles. Hearing a eurovision song once is usually enough…
What impressed me most though was the interval act – A european wide flashmob dancing to Madcon’s new song ‘Glow’. Flashmobs are always great entertainment when executed right and...

Maybe everyone has seen this before, I hadn’t. But over 4.8 million views tell me that some of you will have.
Some staff at a Medical Centre in Portland, Oregon got together to make a video to raise awareness of breast cancer in their hospital. The video has gone above and beyond that with 4,838, 228 views so far and no sign of it stopping. Guy Kawasaki has even described it as possibly the most viral non profit video ever.
What a fun day at work this was!

It seems like the National Campaign for the Arts are organising another flash mob in support of their campaign against any drastic cutting of arts funding in the upcoming budget. This time round the flash mob is to take place in Wexford town, next Saturday 21 November at 12pm. The exact location is not given and will probably remain a secret until the day.
A pre A for Arts Masked Flash Mob meeting will be held at Bui Bolg premises Whitemill Industrial Estate Wexford 7.30pm Weds 18th November to discuss details and they are encouraging all art workers, practitioners and art lovers of all ages to participate or support the event.
Wouldn't it be cool if everyone was wearing these?

Not so long ago I wrote about the National Campaign For the Arts being launched and how they were planning to raise awareness for the arts and try their best not to allow their budgets to be cut. Well they came up with a very novel way of promoting the campaign in Cork this weekend by organising a flashmob! Another one, you say? Well, yes. But a great one! This is one of the best I’ve seen in a while.
The element of surprise was still there. The dancers were quite obviously from all walks of life, of all ages and of all shapes and sizes which is what I love about Flashmobs, the shock and surprise on peoples faces as the oul wan beside them starts dancing along with everyone else. The fact that some onlookers even joined in makes it that much better
Here it is:

Got to love this. Well done to all on St Patrick Street in Cork who did this on Saturday, as a protest against funding cuts to the arts. Well done too to Egomotion for the videos .
There’s loads of videos of it on You Tube including the rehearsals .

At 1pm, a short quiet blow on a whistle triggered some of the shoppers in Victoria Square to stop, frozen in time. And for two minutes, they stood like statues, while shoppers and the centre’s customer service staff wondered what has happening.Truth be told, it takes a lot to disturb a long-time resident of Belfast, and quite a few folk just wandered on past the static figures without even batting an eyelid. But at least a few turned back to wonder!Belfast’s first flash mob ...
