A lot of DVD’s for a good price via Leateds.com, Nov 19th, 2009 at 23:59

image I recently just decided to splash out and get a load of DVD’s that I had always been meaning to get. I usually buy my DVD’s online as they are much cheaper than buying them here in the likes of HMV. So I ended up buying 10 DVD’s and a box set of a TV show! In total for all the 10 films it only cost me €40.44! Not bad at all I think, that is definitely value for money . I bought all these DVD’s from Play.com. I have seen all of these films before and really liked them so had to get them! The best thing of all is that I got the Green Mile for only €3.99! And it costs €30 here in town! The most expensive thing I bought was the Family Guy Season 8 box set that cost €22.49, however since I have all the other 7 seasons I had to get this one. The eighth season starts out not... Nativity! review via Culch.ie, Nov 19th, 2009 at 21:25

image Nativity! is simply a lovely, beautiful and funny film. Mr. Maddens, a primary school teacher played by Martin Freeman, attempts to run a successful school nativity after the headmistress has thrust the duty upon him. His protests of “the children are useless. I’m useless!” and “it was a disaster four years ago” are met with headstrong determination from the headmistress and so the story begins. Mr. Maddens is loved by his pupils. Though he’s not very cheery with them and a little bit strict, he cares in his own way. His new teaching assistant, Mr. Poppy however, loves all the same things the kids do, he plays cool games in the yard, he takes them on ill-advised field trips, he makes a cape out of his snorkel jacket and chases round the yard with them... Cork Film Festival ‘09 via The Stub, Nov 18th, 2009 at 20:58

Written by Fiona Although it was brought to a close with the impressive, if harrowing, post apocalyptic feature The Road, the 54th Corona Cork Film Festival was an upbeat and positive affair. Despite the current economic climate, and the reports of reduced festival finances, the popularity of the festival was preserved. Both the opening and closing Galas, and many of the evening Gala shows were sold out as in previous years. The support for the festival was also visible, as 150 volunteers, along with an array of dedicated staff, kept the events running smoothly. The programme itself saw enthuasism for films from both up and coming directors such as Margaret Corkery, and her first feature ‘Eamon’, as well as old classics, like Micheal Haneke’s ‘The White... unhappy haneke via haido, Nov 18th, 2009 at 17:30

a few days late reading this, but i’m terrible at catching up with my google reader. i’m really excited about seeing the white ribbon, but i might be the only one… There’s obviously something about Michael Haneke’s films that seeps out of the screen to unsettle viewers. The critics’ press screening of his awesome The White Ribbon this week was like a Haneke film in itself. Several critics arrived late, shuffling into their seats while the opening credits played in stark monochrome silence. Another critic began to eat lunch – how can you get anything down your throat during the tension of a Haneke film. Heads turned in annoyance at the chomping. Then another prominent male critic entered noisily and obviously flustered as Haneke’s German narrator... Similar posts

2012 and all that stuff via le craic, Nov 18th, 2009 at 14:30

image December 21st 2012. That’s a significant date in the Mayan Calendar because that’s as far as they count up to. Can’t be too many people who haven’t heard something about this. The release of the film means that anyone who hasn’t will soon start to get curious. Having only a cursory smattering of facts myself about the whole thing, I decided to do a little reading on the topic. To what end you might ask? Very good question – allow me to explain. Basically, my thought process is that by being informed I could go to see the film and sort out the fact from the fiction. Hollywood is very clever you see. I believed that I could fly if I squeezed my eyes tight and tried really hard enough. I believed that nice guys eventually got the girl. I belived in... Similar posts

Broken Embraces via A Word To The Wise... The Jackanory, Nov 14th, 2009 at 15:51

image Following on from his well received Volver, Pedro Almodovar once again teams up with his muse Penelope Cruz (this being her fourth project with the notable director) for his latest, Broken Embraces. Obviously intent on developing his style somewhat, Almodovar removes himself from the generally female centric tales he is known for and injects elements of noir and the element of flashbacks to tell the story. Mateo Blanco (Lluis Homar), a former dirctor but continual screenwriter now answers to Harry Caine, secluding himself in his apartment after losing his eyesight in a car accident. Mateo’s life takes an interesting turn when the producer of his last directorial feature “Girls and Suitcases” , Ernesto Martel (Jose Luis Gomez) dies after several years in prison.... Similar posts
