May via Magnumlady's Blog, May 1st, 2010 at 19:16

image May, originally uploaded by magnum_lady. Well it’s been a really changable day today. Sunshine and heavy showers. It’s been quite cold as well and my oil has almost run out In between the showers I got out to take this photo. My camera has an lcd panel that tilts so I can see what sort of photo I’m taking from all different angles. On Thursday I went to the Cairde auction. Cairde is a family festival that is on in Sligo every Summer. There are always lots of things happening and most of it is free. So the auction was to raise money to fund the festival. There were several things I wanted to buy: 1000 litres of oil, O2 VIP tickets and a boat trip on Templehouse lake. I got outbid of everything though, but it was a very enjoyable night. Made even better by two of my... Similar posts

Talent for Haiti Auction via Meet Mabel & Violet, Feb 5th, 2010 at 18:27

image Oh my, I have been a bit slack on the blogging front this week. Just dropping in to let you know about Talent For Haiti, which is a charity auction created by Eilis Boyle and Helen James to fundraise for the victims of the earthquake. Many designers have donated lots of goodies and there was an auction last week for a private concert with Glen Hansard and Mark Geary, what a pair of gents! Sadly, somebody else won that auction although there are lots of auctions still ongoing so click here to help a very worthy cause and get your mits on some of the spoils! We have donated this Red Tigers Eye & Turquoise Necklace by Juvi Designs. The starting bid for this piece is €100 so it’s the perfect opportunity to try to get it for a fraction of the normal retail price, which is €175... Similar posts

Postcard Lottery via Pimlico Arts, Nov 13th, 2009 at 17:37

image   An unusual art sale begins today at the Royal College of Art. For those not put off by the day that is in it, Friday 13th, it represents a good opportunity to try your luck. More than 800 leading artists and up and coming artists from the college have created 2500 postcards for sale to the public. You can buy an original piece of art by the likes of Anish Kapoor, Grayson Perry or Yoko Ono for just £40. The catch is they are signed on the back so you will not know who created your postcard until you have actually bought it. The “Secret Postcard Exhibition” will run until the 21st December,  plenty of time to track down a Richter or Baldessari, and the proceeds of the auction will be given to charity. The exhibition is open to the public from today but the auction will be... Similar posts

Bidding Can Be Fun via Cool Sites, Jul 22nd, 2009 at 14:15

image The idea behind BidRivals isn't that complicated. They sell electronics, such as Sony Playstation 3, at a fraction of their normal retail price. How? By making it into an auction. When the clock stops whoever has the bid wins. Not that complicated really. You can get more details on how the process works on their site. While obviously winning isn't that easy I'd view it as a good chance to get a high value item for a fraction of its retail price PLUS it's saner option than a normal betting site...... CARNDONAGH LIVESTOCK MART - 50 YEARS via Inishindie, Feb 7th, 2009 at 19:53

image On Monday the 2nd of February 2009 the Carndonagh Livestock Mart celebrated their 50th Anniversary. The late P. J. McCarroll, (Jim to those who knew him,) was the local vet who came up with the idea to set up the Mart in 1958. The basis for the mart was that it would be based on co-operative ideals, run by farmers, for farmers, with everyone owning a share of the business. Seven men were elected on to the committee at the initial meeting in Canny’s Hotel on the 15th of July 1958. These They were P.J McCarroll, Chairman, Carndonagh, George Doherty, N.T., Culdaff, Stephen Butler Jr, Carndonagh, James McLaughlin, Muff, Charles Scott, Tulnaree, Michael Deery, Malin, Angus Mills, Culdaff and P.J. LuzernTech Continue to Get Away With It via Tom Doyle :: TALK, Jan 2nd, 2009 at 21:07

It’s been six months since I posted my first article about LuzernTech, the “Online Supplier of Refurbished Equipment”. I wrote about my experience when buying a DVD player from them, through the auction site eBay. After contacting the National Consumer Agency, I finally got a full refund. However, they still appear to be causing a lot of people, a lot of heartache. Just take a look at their negative feedback for the last 6 months, it’s clear that they are still pulling the wool over a lot of peoples eyes. Apart from the apparent lack of communication from them, the same issue that I had seems to have arisen a number of times yet again. The issue? Well in a nutshell, they refused to refund me the delivery cost of the item even though what they sent me was broken.... Similar posts

Food for Thought via Pimlico Arts, Nov 28th, 2008 at 16:13

image Ju Duoqi is an up and coming Chinese artist. She has just opend an exhibition at the Paris-Beijing Photo Gallery at the 798 art district in the Chinese capital. It is unusual in that what she has done is to create copies of the old masters made entirely from food and photagraphed the results. “I have narrowed my works down to where I only use recycled materials,” “So its easy for me to come up with the idea of making artworks with food, which is cheap and environmentally friendly” she says. Before the vegetable subjects are pinned together to make the cabbage collages, she boils or dries the contents, or uses preserved vegetables. The market for Chinese contemporary art has sunk a little because of the global economic crisis, but it is still performing well. Ms... Similar posts

New York Art Meltdown via Pimlico Arts, Nov 19th, 2008 at 16:29

image A little over six months ago the sale of a Francis Bacon triptych saw it become the most expensive contemporary work ever sold at auction. The record sale led many commentators to predict that the art boom was credit crunch proof. However the failure of another Bacon, this time a self portrait, to attract even a single bid at an art auction in New York has starkly contradicted this prognosis. There was an audible gasp in the auction room when the $40 million painting was withdrawn from sale. The two week auction in New York saw nearly a third of the works offered for sale fail to sell, with many more going for well under the asking price. Amongst those that failed to sell were works by Picasso, Rothko, Manet, Monet, Modigliani, Matisse, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Warhol, Lichtenstein and Hirst.... Similar posts
